With broad, highly-patterned foliage this Calathea makes an outstanding specimen plant. Foliage is dark green with mid-green strips and a ring of hot pink markings around the leaf and through the centre. Leaf undersides and stems are a rich plum colour providing a nice point of contrast.
Calathea Illustris stays reasonably compact. Grow as a pot plant indoors or as a patio plant, just keep it out of direct sunlight. Calatheas grow best in tropical/subtropical conditions. Keep moist during the warmer months and ensure good drainage. Allow the plant to dry out slightly between waterings in the winter. Feed during the warmer months with a slow-release indoor plant fertiliser.
